About NHL games
What NHL boards are built from
NHL boards cover every season since 2006-07. Career Path shows a player’s whole career, so earlier stops can show up. Squad Sweep uses this season’s rosters and never asks for a goalie.
Goalie boards for wins, shutouts, save percentage and goals-against average only list qualified goalies. Plus-minus is the one stat the defensive switch removes.

Stat terms on NHL boards
- Points:
- goals plus assists.
- Save %:
- the share of shots on goal a goalie stops (.915 = 91.5%).
- Goals-against average:
- goals a goalie allows per 60 minutes. Lower is better.
- Shutout:
- a game where the goalie allows no goals.
Where to start with NHL games
Most hockey trivia sticks to the same handful of famous names. These games go deeper, because they’re built from the full stats record, not a handwritten quiz. A fourth-liner with one unlikely season is as likely to come up as a Hall of Famer.
Questions about NHL games
- Why do NHL boards start in 2006-07?
- Older seasons are in the source data, but they’re too patchy for a fair board, so we leave them out. Career Path still shows a player’s whole career, so earlier stops can show up there.
- Can I play NHL trivia with other people?
- Yes. All the party games support hockey. Pass one screen around, or have everyone join a room from their own phone.
